Chairman, Dr. Bruce Forster
Dr. Bruce Forster is Professor and Head at the University of British Columbia, Department of Radiology, Regional Department Head and Regional Medical Director, Medical Imaging, Vancouver Coastal Health/Providence Health. He was recently Director of Diagnostic Imaging for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics/Paralympics Games. As an Associate Member of the Allan McGavin Sports Medicine Centre, he has been involved in the clinical, education, and research aspects of sports imaging for 20 years, is Associate Editor of the journals ‘Radiology’ and ‘British Journal of Sports Medicine’, and is on the Honorary Editorial Board of ‘Open Access Journal of Sports Medicine’. He is the author of over 90 peer-reviewed scientific publications, and 90 educational exhibits, and has served as President of the Pacific Northwest Radiology Society, and on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Association of Radiologists.
Vice-Chair Research, Dr. Jonathon Leipsic
Dr. Jonathon A. Leipsic, M.D., F.R.C.P.C. F.S.C.C.T is the Chairman of the Department of Radiology for Providence Health Care and the Vice Chairman of Research for the UBC Department of Radiology. He is the Assistant Professor of Radiology and is also appointed in the Division of Cardiology with the University of British Columbia. He acts as the co-director of Advanced Cardiac Imaging for the Providence Health Care Heart Center at St. Paul’s Hospital. Dr. Leipsic is actively involved in cardiac CT and MR research with prior involvement in a multi-center trial evaluating coronary CT angiography vs. QCA. Dr. Leipsic has over 50 peer reviewed manuscripts in press or in print and over 100 scientific abstracts. These include, but are not limited to, diagnostic performance and radiation reduction as well as CT to guide minimally invasive valve intervention. He speaks internationally on a number of cardiovascular imaging subjects, He is currently sitting on the education, programs, and international regoinal committees for the Society of Cardiovascular CT as well as the board of directors. He also chairs the Canadian International Regional Committee for the SCCT. Dr Leipsic serves as a reviewer for numerous cardiac imaging journals and is also the director for the Advanced Cardiac Imaging fellowship at the Heart Center at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver.
Vice-Chair, Undergraduate Education and Continuing Professional Development, Dr. Savvas Nicolaou
Dr. Savvas Nicolaou is an Associate Professor of Diagnostic Radiology, Vice-Chair of the Undergraduate Education and Continuing Professional Development for the UBC Department of Radiology, Head of the General Division of the Department of Radiology and the Director of Emergency/Trauma Radiology at Vancouver General Hospital. Dr. Nicolaou’s 14 year career at VGH and his passion for teaching have been recognized with numerous awards including the Bobby Miller Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2011, the UBC Medical Undergraduate Society Teaching Excellence Award in 2010 and 2011, the Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund Award for UBC in 2008 and 2010, and the UBC Clinical Skills Teaching Merit of Excellence in 2007, as well as a Certificate of Merit from the American Roentgen Ray Society in 2011 and two from the Radiological Society of North America in 2010. He has authored over 80 peer-reviewed scientific publications and over 90 educational exhibits. He is one of Canada’s most experienced educators in Emergency Radiology, and his lectures locally, nationally and internationally accordingly reflect his dedication, expertise and outstanding collaborative skills.
Vice-Chair Medical Informatics, Dr. Robyn Cairns
Dr. Robyn Cairns has been practicing as a pediatric radiologist at British Columbia’s Children’s Hospital since 1992. Within her work she has had a subspecialty interest in musculoskeletal radiology and has done collaberative clinical research with the departments of pediatric rheumatology and pediatric orthopedics. Throughout her career, Robyn has had a keen interest in technology and has participated as a super user in several technology initiatives within BCCH radiology. Dr. Cairns received her medical degree, radiology residency and pediatric radiology fellowship at the University of British Columbia. She is currently completing a masters degree at the University of Victoria in Health Information Science.She is a Clinical Associate Professor and the Chief Medical Information Officer for Children's and Women's Health Centre of British Columbia.
Vice-Chair Quality, Dr. Michael Martin
Dr. Michael L. Martin is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Diagnostic Radiology. After completing his radiology residency at the University of Alberta, Dr Martin undertook a fellowship in Interventional Radiology at UBC Hospital. He is currently practicing at St Paul’s Hospital with a subspecialty interest in Vascular and non-vascular Interventional Radiology. His primary research interest is in non-invasive vascular imaging, and is actively engaged with the Divisions of Vascular Surgery and Cardiac Surgery in the diagnosis and minimally invasive management of aortic disease.
